A History of NONIAncient peoples of what is now known as French Polynesia, colonized islands throughout the South Pacific. As they made their voyages from island to island in the ocean-going canoes, they brought with them sacred plans from their home islands. These plants contained the basic foods and construction materials used by the Polynesian colonizers. Perhaps the most important of these plants was simply known as noni. It is known as the queen of these plants. NONI was highly valued for its salutory qualities. Ancient manuscripts handed down from generation to generation, cite the noni fruit as the primary ingredient in their traditional preparations. This plant is known among the people of the tropics world-wide. In Malaysia, it is known as Mengkudu. In Southeast Asia, it is known as Nhau. In the islands of the South Pacific, the plant is known among all peoples. It is known as "nonu" in Samoa and Tonga, "nono" in Raratonga and Tahiti, and "noni" in the Marquesas Islands and Hawaii. Here it is most valued as a health-promoting plant, and has become and integral part of the Polynesian Culture. |
Why Tahiti? The NONI plant flourishes in the lush and unspoiled islands of French Polynesia (the best known of these islands is Tahiti). It is from this tropical island paradise that our noni originates, harvested by native folk who have long benefited from its amazing qualities. The plant reaches heights of 15-20 feet and yields fruit year-around. The mature noni fruit is about the size of a potato. Aside from the well known salutary qualities of this amazing plant, it has been used throughout the ages as a pure food in times of famine. Truly, this queen plant is unique among the wonders of nature. The island group known as Tahiti is considered to be the source of the finest and most potent powerful noni in the world. Noni grows larger and more lush in Tahiti than in other locations. Tahitian Noni International Inc., in its research of the fabulous noni plant determined that because of the ideal climate and soil conditions, as well as the fact that the islands are still in their pristine condition, Tahiti was the superior source of noni. Noni An Important Source of FoodThe Fruit of the Morinda citrifolia tree has been used for centuries as a food source. Early Polynesians recognized its pure value and consumed it in times of famine. During World War II, soldiers based on tropical Polynesian islands were taught by the native Polynesian people to eat the noni fruit to sustain their strength. The fruit became a staple food choice for people of Raratonga, Samoa and Fiji who ate the fruit raw or cooked. Australian Aborigines were fond of the fruit. In Burma, unripe fruits were cooked in curries, while the ripened fruits were consumed raw with salt. Seeds, leaves, bark and rot were also consumed by people familiar with the qualities of this unusual noni plant. Noni is perhaps the most important Salutory Plant in Polynesia. The peoples of Polynesia and their ancestors have used the fruit of the noni for centuries ifor a wide wide variety of salutory purposes. TAHITIAN NONI® Juice is used by itself most commonly, but occasionally mixed with other natural herbs for specific benefits. The Product...
